Within the context of its relaunch plan for the tourist sector, the Province of West Flanders launches a call for projects for transition aid.

Tourism companies that make investments to make their business corona-proof can qualify for a reimbursement of 50% of the costs incurred, up to a maximum of 7,500 euro.

Who qualifies?

Three categories of private players from the tourism sector qualify, provided that they have a company number and provide employment for at least one person on a half-time basis (as an employee or on a self-employed basis):

1. Accommodations:

Family-run hotels, B&Bs, holiday homes, campsites, holiday centres, type C youth and group accommodations and hostels.

The accommodations must have been registered, accredited or authorised before 1 May 2020 in accordance with the Flemish Accommodation Decree or within the context of the Flemish “Toerisme voor Allen” decree.

2. Museums & attractions:

private museums and visitors’ centres, amusement and fun parks, breweries and wineries, beach clubs, adventure parks, petting zoos and visitors farms, bicycle, go-cart, scooter, solex and boat rentals, battlefield tours, covered wagon tours,…

The museum or attraction must focus on tourists, be open in periods that are relevant for tourism with a fixed opening hour schedule and have a registration system for visitors.

3. Tourist information offices accredited by Westtoer.

What qualifies?

The business must invest in each of the three categories of measures listed below:

  • Measures that are necessary in the short term to guarantee the safety and hygiene of visitors and employees: availability of face masks and hand sanitizers, installation of plexiglass, delimitation of specific areas, mapping out of routes to be followed,…
  • Measures and investments that make the accommodations, museums and attractions more corona-proof over the medium term (2020-2021) and in a structural and innovative manner: digital applications, changes to the itineraries followed by visitors, adjustments to breakfast areas and other common areas, adjustments to common sanitary facilities, creation of (outdoor) spaces with experience bubbles for families and small groups,…
  • Communication and marketing actions to improve the market position upon relaunch.

The aid is granted in the form of a financial contribution to the infrastructural and operational expenses of the project. Personnel expenses do not qualify.

All expenses substantiated by an invoice dated on 15 March 2020 or later qualify for the aid.

What is the amount of the aid?

The aid equals maximally 50% of the costs estimated in the financing plan, inclusive of VAT, provided that the VAT is not a deductible item for the applicant.

The amount of the aid is capped at € 2,500, € 5,000 or € 7,500, depending on the size and the activity of the enterprise.

How to apply?

Project proposals can be submitted to the provincial authorities at the latest on 15 September 2020 at 10 am by means of the special application form and annexes (financial table and business plan template).
