Welda, moving forward together, thanks to honest communication

Nie gaan, dá ga nie! That's the spirit of Titeca, with which our experts enter into daily dialogue and co-enterprise with the customer-entrepreneur. We unburden you and offer tailor-made solutions to all kinds of challenging issues.

Proud of the many customers who did not give up, we let them have their say in our section 'Entrepreneurial Heroes of Titeca' because even when things get tough, we should above all 'do and die'!

How are you doing?

We asked customer-entrepreneur Ken Van Leeuwe (39) who, together with his wife Stephanie De Walsche (39), is in charge of WELDA in Oostakker. This family business is a B2B retailer and wholesaler of welding supplies, metalworking machinery and tools.

"At Welda, positivity is one of our most important values. The Welda glass is always half-full ; 'half-empty' is not in our dictionary. For example, we were grateful to be able to take advantage of the extra time during the lockdown to now finish a beautiful project we had been building since the beginning of the year. The original pre-set deadline was 15.03, and yes! We did it..."

What effect did the lockdown have on your business?

"A large part of our goods are transported right to the customer. This allowed our company to remain quasi fully operational during the lockdown from 13.03 onwards. Only the physical store was closed to the public, but this was only for a short period of time."

A stroke of luck - how so?

"Our 'takeout container'was ready, just when the showroom was scheduled to close. Talk about timing. An unexpected coincidence that served us well.

The container is only accessible with a unique customer code. With this code the customer can collect his ordered goods 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in other words inside and outside the standard office hours. The system allows only one person per visit, making the entire purchase transaction contactless. In this way we were also able to serve our customers during the lockdown, unlike fellow competitors who remained closed."

Flexibility, creativity and optimism

"Since the corona, we did notice a drop in our sales. But we took the bull by the horns and expanded our range to include all kinds of protection products. That way we could help our customers make their workshops corona-proof."

Moving forward together, thanks to open communication

"Sending our technicians on site for interventions or the commissioning of new machines remained possible thanks to prior telephone consultations and clear agreements with the customer.

In addition, we also met with each employee personally on several occasions to ensure that everyone could continue to perform their duties both privately and professionally.

By continuously focusing on optimizing communication inside and outside the company, we create a positive atmosphere among colleagues and customers, which together makes us move mountains!"

Proud of Team Welda!

"We are very proud of our team. Their commitment is great. From the beginning, they have committed themselves one by one to ensure the continuity of Welda."

"As an entrepreneur, you need to focus on the things you can change and have an impact on yourself."

What is your entrepreneurial tip?

"If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door! Entrepreneurs are a naturally strong breed anyway. But, you have to take action yourself. Don't just sit by and wait for the crisis to pass. There are many things we cannot influence, but you can put the sails in the wind so that the ship moves forward instead of sinking...

As an entrepreneur, don't stay on your island either. We must go for it together and continue to ask the government for support. Ultimately, it is the entrepreneurs who together can lift up the general prosperity of our country."
