Energy premium for health care providers: a compensation for rising practice costs

The government has introduced cost compensation for health care providers who respect patient fees but bump up practice costs. This measure comes in response to past increased energy costs (due to the war in Ukraine).

 

Who is eligible?

The premium is available to health care providers in sectors with existing agreements and contracts. These include:

  • Doctors
  • Pharmacist-biologists
  • Dentists
  • Midwives
  • Nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Speech therapists
  • Orthopedists
  • Bandagists
  • Opticians
  • Audiologists
  • Pharmacists

 

How does it work?

The premium will be paid automatically based on the contact and financial data found in the well-known ProHealth portal. No application procedure is required. When the conditions are met (e.g. minimum threshold of outpatient services covered by the health insurance), the amount paid will be 1.045,32 EUR (for doctors) and 1.707,31 EUR (for dentists). 

Subject to publication of the regulations in the Belgian Official Gazette, you can here are the premium amounts and minimum thresholds for all health care providers retrieve.

 

Important dates

The premium payment deadline was set for the end of calendar year 2023. For health care providers who must wait for profile data from the second semester of 2023 to determine whether they meet the activity threshold, payment will be made in the first semester of 2024.

Case in point: to qualify for this premium, you must be no later than November 30, 2023 Register your chosen account number in ProHealth, if this would not have already been done.

 

Exceptions

Although non-conventional care providers also face the same rising costs, they are not currently eligible for this premium.
