Following the Flemish energy support for the fourth quarter of 2022, the Flemish government has on April 21, 2023, decided to also grant support to companies that in the first quarter of 2023 were still facing rising energy expenses due to the conflict in Ukraine. This support should provide further continuity to healthy companies and save them from bankruptcy.

For whom?

Only companies with a decrease in EBITDA in the support period (the first quarter of 2023) compared to the reference EBITDA (one fourth of the EBITDA of the calendar year 2021) as well as with a negative EBITDA in the support period or with a decrease in EBITDA of at least 50% in the support period compared to the reference EBITDA are eligible for support. They must also have at least EUR 7,500 in natural gas and/or electricity costs at their Flemish sites in 2021.

For what?

The support is an intervention in rising energy spending due to the conflict in Ukraine.

The total incremental cost of energy expenditures for electricity and natural gas (including CNG and LNG) should be at least 50% of the EBITDA decrease for an EBITDA decrease of 50% to 70% or at least 35% of the strictly positive baseline EBITDA for an EBITDA decrease of more than 70%.

How much?

Energy support is 25% to 35% of the eligible incremental cost of natural gas and electricity in the first quarter of 2023.

Energy-intensive enterprises and energy-intensive enterprises operating in specifically affected sectors are eligible for increased aid.

The Flemish Government is providing a total of EUR 125 million for this support period.

You can apply for this support at the platform of VLAIO (pink button) until June 30, 2023 at noon.
